Cebrina Nolan, Entomology

Cebrina works on the venom component adenosine deaminase (ADA) on the cockroach with Dr. Michael Adams, Entomology.  This research will elucidate the impacts of ADA on the arthropod CNS and provide new insights regarding host manipulation by wasp venom. Cebrina was a Chancellor’s Research Fellow for 2018-2019.  In 2019-2020 she will serve as a Fulbright Research Award Scholar in Australia.

Nicholas Pham, Chemical Engineering & Physics

Nicholas works on Two-Dimensional Mapping of the Intergalactic Medium (IGM) with Dr. George Becker, Physics and Astronomy.  The intergalactic medium (IGM) is a network of dark matter and gas that permeates the space between galaxies. Its structure provides the raw materials for galaxy formation, and its properties reflect the ways in which galaxies interact with their environments over cosmic time.  Nicholas was selected as a Chancellor’s Research Fellow for 2017-2018, and in 2018 he was selected as a Barry Goldwater Scholar.

Cindy Yanez, Physics

Cindy is a Physics major working on research in Environmental Science. Cindy works with Dr. Francesca Hopkins in Environmental Science on climate change research focused on the impact of change on tourism, specifically how the increased heat is shortening the tourist season. Cindy has also participated in an internship at JPL during the summer, where she analyzed greenhouse gas emissions from wildfires in Los Angeles. Cindy was also selected as a Chancellor’s Research Fellow for 2018-2019 and a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow - a prestigious award for students pursuing STEM graduate degrees.
