University cottage
One of UCR’s oldest buildings spruced up
A more than 100-year-old cottage that is one of the last remaining original buildings at UC Riverside has gotten a new lease on life. An extensive renovation project was recently completed to the University Cottage, a small building that is one of the oldest on campus. It was one of a small cluster of buildings that were part of the Citrus Experiment Station that predates UCR. It was first built in 1917 as one of three small residential cottages across from the original Barn structures that included a horse stable, carpenter shop, hay barn, and two wagon sheds.

UCR and Corona naval center create educational partnership
UC Riverside and the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division have begun a new era of collaboration on high tech research, entering into an education partnership agreement that furthers a long-standing relationship. The campus and center, which is part of the Naval Sea Systems Command or NAVSEA, celebrated the partnership at a ceremony Friday, May 8.  Chancellor S. Jack Hu and Capt. Joseph Burgon, commanding officer of the Corona division, formally signed the agreement.

Sandra Kim is named UCR's chief financial officer
Sandra Kim has been named vice chancellor for finance and administration and chief financial officer for UC Riverside following a nationwide search. Since April 2025, Kim has served in the role on an interim basis. Kim has more than two decades of experience managing financial strategy and operations in higher education.

Yet current knowledge gaps make it harder to develop targeted interventions or guidelines. Despite this growing exposure, scientists say the underlying health risks remain poorly understood.
