Childcare

Finding excellent, safe and convenient childcare is a big concern for every parent, including our faculty members. UCR faculty members are eligible to enroll their children in the Child Development Center in one of these age categories:

  • Infants: Four  to 18 months
  • Toddlers: 18 to 24 months
  • Toddler Two's: 24 to 36 months
  • Preschool: Three to five years of age
  • Kindergarten: Five years old by December of the year enrolled.
  • School Age Summer Camp

About the Center

  • Childcare CenterThe center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., all year. All university holidays are observed, including Winter Break. Fees are collected each month based on the age of the child and whether the UCR-affiliated parent is a student, a staff member, a member of the faculty, or a community member.
  • The kindergarten class is open to the public on a space-available basis after UCR-affiliated families have registered.
  • The center also operates a 1/2 day preschool program providing kindergarten readiness to children ages three to five years, with priority given to four year olds. The 1/2 day program is free to those families whose income qualifies.
  • Fees are charged monthly based on the enrollment option chosen. A registration fee is charged at the time of completing enrollment forms and then again each year at registration. Subsidized services are available to income eligible student families for all programs except Kindergarten.
  • The center maintains a waitlist for services. A free application submitted to the center places your child on the waitlist.

Staff Proifle

Leslie, Aaron and Allison Bushong

Leslie and Aaron Bushong are two of our outstanding staff members. They're also UCR graduates who met while attending the university. Leslie Bushong is the staff director for the California Teach Science-Mathematics Initiative, where she recruits and prepares science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors for careers teaching science or mathematics in California. Aaron Bushong is an academic adviser in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. He was one of two staff members who earned the "Outstanding Staff" award for 2003-04. The couple's 3-year-old daughter, Allison, also attends UCR: she goes to pre-school at the UCR Child Development Center.

"Because of our allegiance to UCR and our sense of obligation to ‘give back' to the campus that provided us with such an excellent education and so many valued memories, we both returned to UCR as staff members during the 1997-98 academic year," Leslie said.

The Bushongs say they truly are a UCR family. "Working at UCR not only gives us a sense of accomplishment, as we help current students to realize all of the benefits and privileges of a UCR education that we experienced; but, now that our daughter attends the UCR Child Development Center, it also gives us a sense of community," Aaron said.
