  • ARTSblock

UCR’s ARTSblock is an internationally-recognized visual and performing arts center that provides provocative and compelling art exhibitions, performances, screenings, and educational programs to improve the cultural life of Riverside and Southern California, nurture creative and critical thinking on campus and in the community, and promote the importance of arts for a healthy society.

Comprising California Museum of Photography, Sweeney Art Gallery, and The Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts on a single city block of downtown Riverside’s bustling Main Street pedestrian plaza, ARTSblock serves as a cultural anchor for the University and the region.

The Culver Center boasts a 72-seat screening room, dance studios, edit bays, and a black box production facility, and hosts art openings, dance performances, film screenings, musical recitals, poetry readings, lectures, and symposia. The California Museum of Photography is among the country’s leading institutions of its kind. At its founding forty years ago, it was the only cultural institution in California devoted exclusively to photography. In the decades since, its collections—now encompassing more than750,000 objects—have grown into the largest and most diverse photographic resource in the western United States.

Supporting ARTSblock will expand and augment existing programming; increase the quality and quantity of high profile collections, exhibits, and performances; and enhance student and faculty engagement around the arts at UCR.
