Inventing Your Future: Arts & Culture
At a time when the health of the world may rely on bridging the divide between the U.S. and the Middle East, Reza Aslan, is a voice a reason…
As a thriving university with a strong arts and humanities focus, UCR contributes to the culture of our region, making our "neighborhood" a source of artistic inspiration and new perspectives on the human experience.
At UCR, young writers and artists learn to engage the minds and hearts of an audience, to by going beyond what has been said, danced or played before. Here historians, sociologists, political scientists, anthropologists and experts on Latino, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, Native American and other cultures challenge and expand our understanding of the times in which we live.
- The UCR ARTSblock is playing a key role in the revitalization of historic downtown Riverside. It includes the iconic California Museum of Photography, the Sweeney Art Gallery and a soon-to-be-completed Culver Center of the Arts. Exhibits, poetry slams, arts walks and musical performances are just some of the many offerings open to the public.
- The UCR Center for Ideas and Society fosters a wide range of interdisciplinary research in the humanities. Through lectures, readings and conferences the Center engages the public in dialog with leading scholars, activists and writers.
- UCR's Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts enables student performers to bring live music, dance, theater and art to regional audiences, especially to K-12 schools and senior citizens organizations.
With more than 100,000 people attending cultural events, festivals, concerts, performances and exhibits each year, UCR serves as a catalyst for exploring what it means to be human in an increasingly connected and complex world.
