Recreation and Cultural Opportunities

We understand the need for balancing work with play. That's why we give our staff and faculty members plenty of ways to work out, relax, and enjoy entertainment — whether it's in the form of dance recitals, plays or concerts.

Our Recreation Department works to enhance the mental, physical, social and emotional development of our staff, students and faculty by offering a variety of recreational programs including Intramural Sports Leagues and Recreation and Sports clubs.

The Student Recreation Center, which is open to faculty, staff and students, has an expanded outdoor complex includes 10 tennis courts, four basketball courts, two sand-volleyball courts and a full-size roller hockey rink. Inside, enthusiasts will find a large fitness center with a weight room, a squash court and personal trainers happy to help you achieve your fitness goals.

The Recreation Department's Outdoor Excursions program offers rock climbing, hiking, snow boarding, surfing, snorkeling and other activities that take advantage of our beautiful Southern California setting.

If you're more interested in cultural opportunities, UCR offers a broad array of entertainment on campus. The City of Riverside and neighboring communities offer additional options.

Our cultural events program, UC Riverside Presents features eclectic and unique entertainment. Performances have included a celebration of the deep-roots musical culture of Southwest Virginia along Hwy. 58, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band playing the music of days gone by, and a male chamber ensemble featuring impeccably blended voices and heft of sound.
