Sweeney Art Gallery
The Relationship Between Art and Life
The Sweeney Art Gallery brings creative energy and an artistic spirit to UCR as well as the Riverside community.
Established on campus in 1963, the Sweeney relocated in 2006 to a renovated bank building at UCR's ARTSblock in the heart of historic downtown Riverside. It serves as an artistic laboratory that engages diverse audiences with exhibitions and programs that are committed to experimentation, innovation, and the exploration of art in our time.
Featuring approximately five exhibitions per year, three different film series, and various other performances and events, the gallery's permanent collection includes abstract and figurative works from the modern to contemporary periods. Some notable works in the collection include Alexander Calder, Roy Lichtenstein, Millard Sheets, and Kara Walker.
