From hip hop theatre to conferences on violence and religion, UC Riverside's Center for Ideas & Society takes a unique approach to studying and understanding the human experience.
By encouraging collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the humanities, arts and social sciences, the center has teamed scholars from diverse disciplines to gain new perspectives. Social scientists might work with arts professors on center projects. Environmental scientists might team up with film scholars.
The results are performances and conferences that have gained national and international recognition for promoting and advancing humanistic research.

- The Publication of Occasional Papers
The Center administers grants, including:
- The Rockefeller Residency Site Program
- The Ford Foundation Education, Media, Arts, and Culture Grant
- The Hewlett Grant
- The Alpha Cluster Grant
