About UCR
UCR Bell Tower and Carillon
Located in the center of campus, the 161-foot UCR Bell Tower was dedicated in 1966. The carillon within the top of the tower is a musical instrument consisting of 48 tuned brass bells. The bells range in weight from 28 pounds to 5,091 pounds. Carillon concerts are played throughout the year.
Arts Building
Completed in 2001, the Arts Building is home to UC Riverside's visual and performing arts programs. The 99,910-square-foot building houses the dance, music, theatre, art history and studio art departments.
Student Recreation Center
The UC Riverside Student Recreation Center opened in January 1994. The 80,000-square-foot building was planned by students and funded through student fees. It includes four racquetball/ wallyball courts and one squash court, four basketball/volleyball courts, a 6,000-square-foot weight training facility, a 3,000-square-foot area dedicated to cardio-fitness machines and multi-use facilities for dance, karate and aerobics classes.
Rivera Library
UC Riverside's main library is named after Tomás Rivera, the fourth chancellor of the University. It supports business, education, humanities, fine arts and social sciences and contains the University Archives and the Eaton Collection, the world's largest cataloged collection of science fiction and fantasy.
Science Library
The Science Library has approximately 533,000 cataloged publications in the subjects of physical sciences, natural and agricultural sciences, biomedical sciences, and engineering and computer science. It also houses the Map Collection, which features state-of-the-art electronic cartographic resources as well as extensive holdings of maps and atlases.
A University of Distinction and Diversity
The University of California, Riverside is one of 10 universities within the prestigious University of California system, and the only UC located in Inland Southern California.
Widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the nation, UCR's current enrollment is 17,187 students, with a goal of 21,000 students by 2010. The campus is in the midst of a tremendous growth spurt with new and remodeled facilities coming on-line on a regular basis.
We are located approximately 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. UCR is also within easy driving distance of dozens of major cultural and recreational sites, as well as desert, mountain and coastal destinations.
